It was harder even than just a full German accent. Because HYDRA had operatives everywhere, and generations of native language were almost impossible to wipe out, the accent of the USA was now a bizarre combination of German and American. James could mimic it, though his natural accent was Russian (and apparently an old-school Brooklyn occasionally around Steve), and so he shifted to the correct accent so Steve could study and mimic it.

"Sure, there's a Brooklyn, but this is how people talk now. And you've gotta be able to speak German, do you speak German?"

This could be really difficult if not.

"And you need a cover. A name, a profession, papers."
