Steve was utterly confused, but he believed that Tony was telling him the truth. That didn't marry with any of the other conversations they'd had, though, where Tony had made it clear that he hated the very idea of Steve Rogers. In fact, it seemed like the nicer Steve tried to be to him, the worse it got.
