Steve wasn't sure he was buying that, Tony just seemed... off. Like all the relaxed pleasure of earlier had been twisted and turned into tension. It made him a little sad, but apparently they couldn't actually spend time together without it being a mission, not without Tony remembering that he hated Steve for something that he had no control over.

So he sighed, the happiness fading a bit from his expression too, and didn't press the matter. He wouldn't make Tony stay in his company when he obviously didn't want to be, so that made the choice easy.

"Back to the Compound, pretty sure that's enough birthday action for anyone."
